Mycenae was an ancient city of Argolis. It was the kingdom of Agamemnon, the mythical king of Atreides. Mycenae was the most important and richest center of Greek civilization of the late copper period in Greece, from 1600 to 1100 BC approximately. The fortification, made of huge boulders (the Cyclopean walls) as well as the palaces, are still preserved in an excellent condition. In the archaeological site of Mycenae you can visit the Archaeological Museum, the royal tombs, the Atreus treasure (Tomb of Agamemnon), the Tomb of Clytemnestra, the impressive gate of the Lions.
